-04- Queen Charlotte Drive

Picton is a calm place outside of the season. Maybe even during season. It links the North and the South island as it is the ferry harbor for the Interislander . Not many really stop over and stay here being on their way out of or into the South Island.

Picton is embedded in the Sounds. A myriad of islands and sounds in the North of the South Island.
Today I am heading towards Havelock taking the Queen Charlotte Drive. A side road along the coast, avoiding the main road back to Blenheim and then up to Havelock. It is just 33km to Havelock, but that’s the road I would take on a Motorbike too. Curves all over. As I see a car with a trailer home taking the road I have no concerns doing it too. The right decision.

If you are into boats, that’s where you should retire.
A heli or water plane would be a nice option and would connect you to the rest of the world.

Heading on from Havelock to Nelson.
Nice scenery all along the road.
The 120km took me 5 hours today. If I really want to get around the entire island I may need a couple of driving days. I rely on the weather.
Those days will come.
