-20- Cook & Tasman Glacier

Trying to do a couple of Mt. Cook shots. But the Admiral is not in mood for photos. Wrapped in clouds.
On the way to Aoraki (Mt. Cook) you drive along Lake Pukaki (BTW another dead end - only 54km this time Happy ). The lake is in complete aquamarine color. It is fed by the Tasman River. That river is the water of the Tasman Glacier. The color is originating from the sands the glacier grinds of the ground.

As Mr. Cook is not in willing to show himself and as I am in the region I take the gravel road to the Tasman Glacier.
Like learned in school, there is a huge moraine at the end of the glacier. It takes 15mins by foot to get up to a point, where the glacier can be seen.
On the other side of these mountains are the Fox - and the Franz-Josef Glacier.

After a short glance around the corner, whether the admiral is in a better mood now, I decide to head on. The clouds just look the same as two hours ago, before Tasman.

A brief look back at the Glacier from the Tasman River Valley.

I stop for the night at Lake Tepako. In Lake Tekapo the small church of the god shepherd offers a beautiful view across the lake and into the mountain range.
