Approx.250km planned today. Want to get through the Southern Rainforest area. There are trees, ferns, swamps and (I was mistaken) one settling on the way to Haast - Bruce Bay - approx. 10 houses, 60km in each direction to the next supermarket.

I did start the way with a walk to Fox Glacier. Something different for a day planned behind the steering wheel.
As expected all along the way to the Glacier marks have been put in like „in 1755 the Glacier was here“. Since that time the Glacier is moving back ward, uphill. It’s too warm.

In order to give you the right perspective, a close up of the Fox Glacier picture. Yes, there are two climbers on the Glacier. Approximately in the middle of the picture. No way to find them - too small they are.
But here they are

Some 120km s later the last rain forest.
Landscape changes. Street crawls up to Haast pass. Just to mention Haast is 63km away from Haast Pass. But still the closest place.
I counted 12 cars during the last 120kms coming towards me.

The road condition and preparation is phantastic. Perfect for motorcycling too. So far all roads have been in good shape. Some are better than major roads in Germany.

Given the little population you are able to drive at constant speed of 90..100. 104 km/h at max. The police strictly enforces a „no tolerance policy“ for speed 4km/h above the limit. Advertised on TV and Radio. No personal experiences.so far.

Behind Haast Pass I approach Lake Wanaka and Lake Havea quickly.
I have chosen the right day for the trip. Te weather is hmmmmm. Overcast no sun. Nevertheless some nice shots have been possible.
Low hanging clouds.
Dramatic mood scenery at Lake Wanaka
Low hanging clouds over Lake Wanaka.
Crystal clear structure of mountains at Lake Hawea.
Lonely Kayaker on Lake Wanaka in Wanaka.
